A resident of Buffalo, New York, Shereen Fox is an experienced health counselor and the owner and lead clinician at Blossom Mental Health Counseling, PLLC, an organization that provides mental health counseling for people experiencing mental health disorders. As lead clinician, Shereen Fox uses evidence-based treatments to help her patients.
Evidence-based therapies are scientifically proven to be clinically effective and improve the quality of treatment that mental health patients receive. Three key types of evidence-based therapies are described below.
1. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This form of psychotherapeutic treatment provides empowerment to patients so they can reduce and eliminate negative thoughts and behaviors that promote disorders and addictions.
2. Neurofeedback. This treatment uses biofeedback to modulate the way the brain regulates its level of arousal. Valuable for treating conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression, neurofeedback is long-lasting, optimizes cognitive abilities, and improves energy levels, sleep patterns, and mood.
3. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). This therapy is proven to treat psychological distress resulting from trauma due to violence, natural disaster, rape, accidents, and more. EMDR helps patients activate their brains’ ability to address traumatic memories so they can heal and the patients can eliminate negative symptoms.
